3AM launches an AI on-call engineer for production incidents

3AM, a new AI on-call engineer now in open alpha on Product Hunt, is built to find root causes of production incidents and propose fixes for systems that cannot be rewritten. Fixes are dry-run first and applied only after a person approves them in Slack or another tool.

The team says 3AM investigates incidents by running a live check against the customer's systems, and it names a root cause only once that check confirms it. If it cannot confirm a cause, it reports what it found instead of guessing.

3AM runs inside the customer's network with no inbound ports and can work fully air-gapped, according to the team, and the only outside contact is a signed licence check. It starts in shadow mode, where it proposes fixes without changing anything, and more autonomy requires two approvers. Every step is written to a hash-chained audit log.

The team says it tested 3AM by deliberately breaking a 244,000-line open-source core banking system written in Java, in 67 different ways, and treats zero harmful actions as a release gate. The first 90 days are free, and the team is asking users for feedback during the open alpha.

Why it matters if you build agents

Teams running regulated or hard-to-change systems may be able to test an automated incident responder without sending production data to a third-party cloud. Builders of their own agents can borrow the pattern of shadow mode, dry runs and human approval before any production change. The product is in open alpha and the performance figures come from the team's own tests.
