The Agentic AI Foundation, a consortium that maintains open-source AI tools, has taken on four new projects donated by OpenAI Group PBC, Anthropic PBC, Hugging Face Inc. and Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. The group now maintains 10 projects, up from three when the Linux Foundation launched it last December.
OpenAI donated Open Responses, a standardized template for implementing AI model APIs that lets developers move code between providers with few changes. It is modeled on the API OpenAI uses to offer its own LLMs. Anthropic donated Agent Skills, a standard format for packaging skills, which are bundles of instructions, examples and automation scripts that improve an agent's output.
Hugging Face contributed OpenEnv and Alibaba contributed OpenSandbox, both focused on sandboxes, the simulated environments where AI labs train models. According to the report, OpenEnv reduces the work needed to switch training systems, while OpenSandbox provides APIs for managing sandboxes, including connecting agents running inside them to external applications.
Why it matters if you build agents
Open Responses gives agent developers a shared API shape that could reduce the code changes needed to switch model providers. Agent Skills files can be shared across teams without restructuring them.
OpenSandbox's management APIs may be worth evaluating for agents that need sandboxed execution and connections to outside systems. These projects are newly donated, so check their maturity and governance before building on them.
