Agno v3.1.3 adds durable sessions, retries and metrics for Claude and Codex agents

Agno v3.1.3 lets ClaudeAgent and CodexAgent sessions resume on any replica, run in the background and be cancelled, and report tokens and cost on each run. The release also adds retries, structured output, media attachments and an AnakinTools toolkit.

Agno's ClaudeAgent and CodexAgent now store the Claude SDK session id on the Agno session. With PostgresDb, AsyncPostgresDb, SqliteDb or AsyncSqliteDb, transcript lines are mirrored into a new agno_transcripts table, so a later turn on another machine can resume from the database. If a stored session cannot be resumed, it falls back to a fresh SDK session seeded with the Agno history.

The release adds background=True runs with cancellation through /agents/{id}/runs/{run_id}/cancel, and step replay for ClaudeAgent through continue_run and acontinue_run. External agents also gain retries with exponential backoff, output_schema support, image and file attachments, and per-run metrics. Each run now reports tokens, cache usage and cost where the SDK provides them.

Changes to existing behaviour include a default model of claude-sonnet-4-6 for Claude and gpt-5.6-luna for Codex when none is set. A second turn on a session that is already in flight is now refused with SessionBusyError (HTTP 409). The release also adds AnakinTools, a toolkit for Anakin.io's scrape, crawl, map and search APIs.

Why it matters if you build agents

Agents built on ClaudeAgent or CodexAgent can resume sessions across machines when a database is configured, and can cancel or retry runs without losing tool history.

Code that sends a second turn to a session while one is running will now get a 409 error and must handle it. Code that relied on the CLI choosing the model should set one explicitly, since the default has changed.
