Anthropic is entering the crowded market for personal and productivity assistants with Claude Duet, which it positions against Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot and Fo. The company says Duet is meant for professionals and small businesses automating and managing tasks, and that it is not built for errands or ticket booking, nor for showing browser use as it happens.

Duet can build a daily briefing, create dashboards and suggest actions from a user's data, and it proactively delivers recommendations while monitoring ongoing tasks. It runs tasks in the background on its own virtual machine and returns to the user when it needs approval. It is built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model and can connect to more than 6,000 connectors and plugins in the Claude Marketplace.

Duet can make online purchases through Stripe's Link wallet or Shopify's Shop Pay, but sensitive steps such as payments require user approval. It will not trade securities or move money between accounts. Anthropic also released a classifier that checks messages for leaks of sensitive information, and by default the agent declines requests for credit card numbers and government identification.

Why it matters if you build agents

Developers building business agents on Claude get a consumer-facing surface with a connector marketplace and payment hooks to test against. Payment actions still need explicit user sign-off, so flows should be designed around approval steps.

Duet's default refusal of card numbers and government IDs means agent integrations should not depend on passing that data through the chat.
