Anthropic has launched Claude Duet, an AI agent for professionals and small business owners, as a research preview. It is built on Claude Opus 5.5 and is positioned against agents from Meta and OpenAI.

Anthropic has launched Claude Duet as a research preview. It is available as a standalone app on iOS and Android and through Claude on the web, and it is built on Claude Opus 5.5.

Each morning Duet sends a short brief on the most important items across connected apps, then monitors those apps during the day and alerts users only when something needs attention. Users can assign tasks such as scheduling meetings, building dashboards, creating forecasts, prototyping and building web apps. Duet uses memory, skills and connected apps from Claude and has a virtual machine with a browser for completing work.

Duet asks for approval before major steps such as sending a payment or deleting something. Anthropic added a dedicated classifier and safety system prompt meant to reject requests for the strictest tier of information, such as credit card numbers. The company calls it an early version that may misread a thread or misjudge urgency, and says it is weaker at personal errands like booking tickets. Access is by waitlist and requires a Pro or Max subscription in the US.

## Why it matters if you build agents

Developers building agents on Claude can point to a consumer-facing reference for approval gates before payments and deletions, along with a dedicated classifier for sensitive data. Anthropic's own description of weak spots, including misread threads and personal errands, is a useful guide for testing similar workflows.

Access is limited to US Pro and Max subscribers on a waitlist, so teams should not plan around Duet as a dependable service yet.
