AWS makes Web Answer generally available on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore

Amazon Web Services has made Web Answer generally available on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, a managed tool that returns a synthesized, source-cited answer to a natural-language question in a single call. It removes the need for agent builders to run their own search, retrieval, synthesis and citation pipeline.

Web Answer is added to an AgentCore Gateway as a managed connector, and the Gateway calls it with its own service role. Web Answer plans several searches, runs them in parallel, reads pages to check facts, and searches again when the evidence is insufficient. It then returns an answer in which each claim maps to a source URL.

Administrators add it with a create_gateway_target call that uses the connector ID web-answer and the GATEWAY_IAM_ROLE credential provider, so no separate API key is needed. The service role needs the bedrock-agentcore:InvokeWebAnswer permission on the AWS-owned tool ARN. A domain filter set on the target applies to every call, and agents can narrow it on each call but cannot widen it.

Responses arrive as MCP tool results with text content and structuredContent holding the answer and a list of citations with URL and domain. AWS prices Web Answer at $10 per 1,000 tool calls. It is available in US East (N. Virginia), with more Regions coming soon, and the per-account limit there is 10 transactions per second.

Why it matters if you build agents

Agent builders can replace a custom search, retrieval and citation chain for factual questions with one MCP tool call. AWS suggests keeping Web Search where the agent's own model should reason over raw results, and using Web Answer for quick cited answers inside a larger agent. Track the per-call price and check target-level domain filters, since they bound every call that goes through the target.
