Blacksmith, which helps companies build and test software more efficiently, including code written by AI, announced on Wednesday a $66 million Series C led by Sequoia. The round values the company at $1 billion. Co-founder and CEO Aditya Jayaprakash said the company was started to make continuous integration less painful, noting that most companies struggle to keep up with the volume of CI they need to run.
The company says its annual recurring revenue has grown 17x and that it has run more than 90 million CI jobs, which are automated code checks. Customers named include Mercury and Granola. Jayaprakash argued that as agents write more of the world's software, the key question is whether that code can be trusted.
The Series C comes two months after a $45 million Series B that valued Blacksmith at $550 million. A year ago the company was valued at $60 million after a $10 million Series A, and it has raised $125 million to date.
Why it matters if you build agents
Agent-written code will move through CI at growing volume, so teams building coding agents should plan for CI capacity and verification to become a bottleneck. Blacksmith's rapid valuation growth suggests investors see hosted CI built for AI-generated code as a priority category. Developers choosing a CI provider for agent workflows may want to compare how each handles high job volumes.
