Cloudflare agents 0.30.0 adds Pi 1.4 support and hardens PiHarness recovery

Cloudflare's agents 0.30.0 adds support for Pi 1.4 and makes PiHarness recover more reliably from evictions, crashes and storage errors. The upgrade requires Pi 1.4 packages and a harness change, and deployments cannot roll back to Pi 1.3 once it runs.

The agents package at version 0.30.0 adds support for Pi 1.4, and the agents/harness/pi module now runs on that version. PiHarness passes Pi's onWake through the harness factory, so a Durable Object can sleep until Pi's next task is due instead of staying in memory. Tasks stopped by Pi's restart limit now appear as parked in pending(), and retry() runs them again.

Recovery changes include reopening Pi after a storage error rather than failing every call until the object restarts, and keeping the wake job alive through failed steps with backoff. Lifecycle no longer keeps evicted Durable Objects in memory and arms a fallback alarm when startup fails. pi-ai now reports cut-off model streams with wording Pi treats as transient, so Pi retries them.

Upgrading means moving Pi to ~1.4.0 across pi-durable, pi-ai and pi-agent-core, and installing @earendil-works/chord alongside them. Pi 1.4 migrates session storage to a schema Pi 1.3 cannot open. Developers should pass onWake to Harness.open and move any module-scope Pi registry into the class, since a module-level registry keeps evicted harnesses in memory.

Why it matters if you build agents

Agent developers using PiHarness can let Durable Objects hibernate while Pi tasks wait, but only after passing onWake to Harness.open. Once this upgrade runs, the session storage cannot be rolled back to Pi 1.3, so test the upgrade before deploying it. Code that switches on PiPendingOperation.status needs to handle the new parked status.
