The release adds experimental_registerOpenTelemetry() to agents/observability, which records spans from OpenTelemetry-instrumented libraries as Workers trace spans. The function is marked experimental and may change. Agents SDK spans for agent lifecycle, wrapAISDK and Think now set an error status on failure where the Workers runtime supports it.
The update also includes a breaking change to agent skills. agents/skills now loads skills from Computer Workspace files, R2 or code, and checks SKILL.md against the Agent Skills spec. SkillRegistry is replaced by loadSkillCatalog() and createSkillTools(), the runner moved to agents/skills/runner, and the agents:skills Vite import and agents/skills/compile were removed.
Other changes make the package side-effect free, so importing routeAgentRequest no longer bundles the MCP client. The MCP client and server packages move to 2.4.0 and the MCP SDK to 1.32.2, with a new clientMetadataUrl option for OAuth client metadata documents. Streamed chat-completions tool-call arguments in agents/models/pi-ai are now parsed incrementally.
Why it matters if you build agents
Developers who use agent skills need to update their imports and move from SkillRegistry to the new loader functions before upgrading. Teams that rely on the MCP client can now pass a metadata URL when setting up OAuth. The OpenTelemetry helper makes library traces visible in Workers, but its API may change, so avoid depending on it in production code yet.
