datasette-apps 0.3a0 adds stored query controls for agent-built apps

Simon Willison released datasette-apps 0.3a0, a Datasette plugin for hosting and editing custom HTML apps. The update tightens how Datasette Agent creates apps and which stored queries they can call.

Datasette Apps adds support for hosting and editing custom HTML applications inside Datasette. Apps can be written by hand or generated with LLMs through Datasette Agent, and this release focuses on that workflow.

Users can now tag apps in agent chat messages by typing #, with autocomplete limited to apps they are allowed to view. Two new tools, app_add_stored_queries() and app_remove_stored_queries(), let the agent control which stored queries an app may call, and granting a write query requires the user's approval first.

app_create() now checks that each requested stored query exists and that the user can view it, and asks for approval on any write queries before creating the app. The View app buttons and # app links now open the app full screen in the Datasette Agent panel.

Why it matters if you build agents

If you build agents on Datasette, app_create() now checks stored query existence and visibility and prompts for approval on writes before an app is created. Agents that create apps should expect these approval prompts and can use the new tools to add or remove stored query access.
