Google Cloud is making three OpenAI models available starting October 21, 2026. GPT-6 Astra is aimed at demanding work such as coding and research, GPT-6.1 Sol is offered as a cheaper option with similar performance, and GPT-6 Luna is a fast, low-cost model for everyday use. The models will also appear in Gemini for Business and Google Antigravity.
Access starts as a private preview for selected enterprise customers, with sign-ups open to others. All charges run through a single Google Cloud bill and count toward existing contracts. Google says customer data will not be used for training.
The Decoder notes a tension inside Google: the compute used to serve cloud customers also strengthens the rivals of Google's own Gemini team. The article reports that this resource conflict contributed to researcher Noam Shazeer returning to OpenAI.
Why it matters if you build agents
Agent builders on Google Cloud can now call OpenAI models next to Gemini and Claude under one bill and existing contracts, which simplifies multi-model setups. Access is limited to a private preview for select enterprise customers, so teams outside that group should not plan production work around these models yet. Watch for general availability terms, pricing and data handling details before committing.
