Google has released version 1.0 of the Agent Development Kit (ADK) for Kotlin, generally available now. The release reaches feature parity with ADK 1.0 Core and adds Android-first, on-device extensions.

The 1.0 release builds on a Kotlin Multiplatform core that does not depend on a specific model backend, session provider or memory system. It adds multi-agent orchestration for local and cloud use, including hierarchical agents that delegate to child agents, context compaction for long conversations, human-in-the-loop confirmation flows, and session resumability. Kotlin tools can be declared with @Tool and @Param annotations, and their schemas are generated at compile time through KSP rather than runtime reflection.

The Google Developers Blog post walks through an incident triage agent that loads a database triage playbook as a skill, checks service metrics and recent deployments, and posts a summary to a Slack-style channel. For Android, the release offers modular extensions for on-device models through LiteRT-LM and ML Kit (beta), cloud workflows through Firebase AI Logic, and persistence through Room and AppSearch. A sample financial assistant shows a transfer tool that pauses for explicit user confirmation before running.

Server-side Kotlin and Java developers can also use the framework, and the post notes that ADK Kotlin agents can be called directly from Java applications. Dependencies are published under com.google.adk with version 1.0.0 for the core and KSP processor, and the Android extensions are listed as optional modules.

## Why it matters if you build agents

Teams already running Kotlin or Java services can build agents with compile-time tool schemas and skills without adding a separate runtime stack.

Agents that take sensitive actions can pause for user confirmation and resume later, and Android apps can keep chat sessions and memory across process restarts using the Room and AppSearch integrations.

The post labels its banking example as demonstration code not designed to meet compliance requirements, so teams handling real transactions will need their own review.
