Hermes Agent v0.23.0 adds a Webapp that serves the full Desktop workspace in a browser tab and makes one gateway own every session across its CLI, TUI, Desktop, editors, bots and cron. The release also removes the old built-in browser tools and renames the MCP server command, so existing agents may need changes.

Hermes Agent v0.23.0, dated November 5, 2026, serves the Desktop workspace through a new Webapp run from the user's own gateway. The Webapp is off by default and is turned on with webapp.enabled or Web Access in Settings. Each machine now runs one gateway that owns every session, and the CLI, TUI, Desktop, editors, bots and cron connect to it as clients.

Other changes include hermes plugins update, an opt-in auto-update switch, and a plugin catalog that grew from about 600 to over 1,050 entries. Paid MCP tools can declare a price per call, and Hermes asks before a chat goes over its spend limit, even in YOLO mode. Delegation is now pluggable through delegation.backend, and an official advanced-delegation plugin adds model and profile routing.

The upgrade has breaking changes. agent-browser and the ten browser_* tools were removed, so browser automation now runs only on browser_exec. hermes mcp serve became hermes mcp-serve, and MCP clients that launch Hermes as a server must update their command. Desktop now needs macOS 13 or later or 64-bit Windows.

## Why it matters if you build agents

Agent code that calls browser_navigate, browser_click or similar tools needs to switch to browser_exec before upgrading. MCP clients that start Hermes with hermes mcp serve need the new hermes mcp-serve command.

Paid MCP tools can now carry per-call prices and chat-level spend limits, which matters for agents that call them without a human in the loop.
