Motive, a San Francisco-based provider of AI for physical operations, announced the Agents platform, which goes beyond alerts by taking action on operational data already collected through its platform. Agents are available now to Motive customers, and the company is demonstrating them this week at the American Trucking Association's Management Conference & Exhibition in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Motive estimates that companies lose about $46 billion to preventable operational problems, including vehicle downtime, compliance violations and unnecessary idling. The company says it has not provided independently validated performance results for the new platform.
Motive plans to add natural-language agent creation in early 2027, which would let customers describe a workflow in plain English and have AI build the automation. Today's customers define triggers and actions, and the agents assist in running the workflow.
Why it matters if you build agents
Developers building operational agents for fleets or field work can see a vendor shipping agents that act on vehicle and driver data rather than only raising alerts. Teams building similar systems should plan for approval rules, escalation paths and human oversight, since the source notes these remain open questions for autonomous operations.
Because Motive has not published independent performance results, anyone evaluating the platform should test its trigger and action behavior against their own workflows before relying on it.
