OpenAI brings GPT-6 Astra and smaller models to Google Cloud

OpenAI plans to offer its latest large language models through Google Cloud's Model Garden service. The first model is GPT-6 Astra, with the scaled-down GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna to follow in the same catalog.

Model Garden provides access to more than 200 neural networks from Google, its partners and the open-source ecosystem, and also includes smaller models for tasks such as translation. Astra, Sol and Luna are expected to become generally available there within a few weeks.

OpenAI describes Astra as its flagship model, and says it was behind several math discoveries the company published recently. It also scored perfectly on ExploitBench, a benchmark for finding and exploiting cybersecurity flaws. According to OpenAI, Astra includes safety optimizations for enterprise use and causes fewer misaligned outcomes than other frontier models it has evaluated.

Sol and Luna launched in late September and trade some output quality for lower token pricing, costing five and 100 times less than Astra. Google Cloud customers can use their long-term spending commitments to pay for the models, avoiding a separate AI budget. The companies plan to bring the models to Google's Confidential Compute services later.

Why it matters if you build agents

Developers building agents on Google Cloud can call OpenAI models using existing cloud commitments instead of setting up a new contract or budget. Once generally available, Astra, Sol and Luna let teams pick a flagship model or a much cheaper one per task. Check model availability and pricing in Model Garden once the launch completes, since the source describes these as upcoming steps.
