According to a report from The Information, OpenAI is winning large Anthropic customers such as Rippling, Replit and DataCamp with steep price cuts. Rippling says OpenAI's share of its coding workload rose sharply while Anthropic's share fell, and OpenAI is reportedly accepting thinner margins to gain market share.

The Information reports that OpenAI is moving major customers away from Anthropic with deep discounts. Rippling, Replit and DataCamp are shifting more of their AI spending to OpenAI. Rippling CEO Parker Conrad said OpenAI's share of the company's coding workload rose from 16 to 52 percent, while Anthropic's fell from 57 to 18 percent.

Replit switched after OpenAI offered more than 30 percent off a contract worth over $100 million a year. DataCamp CEO Jonathan Cornelissen said OpenAI's pricing cut his company's costs by 80 to 90 percent. A US bank with more than $7 billion in assets had its ChatGPT seats doubled to 500 employees at no extra charge, paying under $7 per user instead of the usual $20 or more.

The report says OpenAI is partly buying market share at the expense of its own margins, but it has also lowered prices through its Sol and Luna model lines, which it credits to more efficient models and infrastructure. An investor memo cited in the report says Anthropic's growth slowed from Q2 to Q3. Both companies also face price pressure from Chinese models, including DeepSeek and Kimi, which offer comparable performance for a fraction of the cost.

## Why it matters if you build agents

Model pricing for agent workloads is moving quickly, so cost estimates tied to one provider may need frequent review. The reported discounts are large for some customers, which makes it worth comparing current model bills and rate plans across providers. The figures come from executives quoted in a secondhand report, so they should be treated as reported rather than verified.
