OpenHands released v1.28.0 on 19 October, with most changes being interface fixes and a few new features. The headline features are an in-conversation prompt that lets the agent request a secret, and smoother chat streaming with a word fade-in.

The release adds a feature that lets the agent ask for a secret through an in-conversation modal, and a later change moves those requests inline into the chat. Chat streaming now renders at a reading pace with a word fade-in effect. The release also adds a Bahasa Indonesia locale and a close control on the Getting started checklist.

Verification tooling for OpenHands gets new work as well, including executable known bugs and a repeatable fix proof. Several changes fix cloud runtime behavior: messages are held until the cloud runtime is reachable, and Resume wakes a paused cloud sandbox instead of calling its runtime directly.

Most of the remaining entries are fixes for theme readability, focus handling in dialogs, automation editing, and settings saves. The changelog also lists Azure DevOps repository listing across every organization and bumps the agent-server to 1.55.1.

## Why it matters if you build agents

If your agents run on OpenHands, a secret request can now appear inline in the chat instead of only as a separate modal, so check any flows that assume the older prompt.

Messages sent while a cloud runtime is unreachable are held rather than failed, which changes how retries should be handled in your own wrappers.
