TypeSafe AI, the developer of Jev, has raised $870 million at a $7.5 billion valuation. Andreessen Horowitz led the round, with participation from Sequoia and existing investor DCVC. The raise follows rapid uptake of Jev after its September 15 launch.
TypeSafe says a third of Fortune 500 companies are already using the model. Jev is built on a transformer architecture but is not an LLM. Instead of outputting text, it produces probabilities, which the company calls calibrated decisions.
TypeSafe claims Jev runs significantly faster and uses far fewer tokens than LLMs, and it positions the model for automating tasks rather than generating text or code. Co-founder Diogo Almeida, a former OpenAI researcher, argues that language models are not useful for automation because computers speak a different language. The company was co-founded in 2024 by Almeida, Sasha Sheng and Erik Gafni.
Why it matters if you build agents
For agent builders, Jev is a non-text option aimed at automation, which may be worth testing where an agent mainly makes decisions rather than writes text.
The speed and token savings are the company's own claims and are not independently verified here, so measure them on your own workloads before changing models.
