Dropbox told TechCrunch that the deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026 and that it currently has no plans to reduce headcount because of it. The company cut 9% of its global workforce last month, according to WSJ reporting. Tigris Data was founded by former Uber engineers who helped build the ride-hailing company's storage infrastructure.
DBX Agent Cloud will first launch object storage as a standalone product that can be used with existing tools and applications built for Amazon S3. Dropbox also plans to add support for documents, images, audio and video, along with filesystem features that let AI agents manage files and keep continuity across tasks and sessions. The initial rollout covers eligible Standard and Advanced customers in the U.S., U.K. and Australia, with broader availability planned for 2027.
Tigris Data's platform automatically places data closer to the users and computing resources that need it, which the company says reduces access times. Tigris raised $25 million in a Series A round last year. Dropbox has previously acquired several AI-focused companies, including Reclaim.ai, Promoted.ai and Mobius Labs.
Why it matters if you build agents
Developers who build agents on Amazon S3-based tools may soon get another object storage option, but the standalone product is only starting and broader availability is planned for 2027. Agent builders who need files to persist across tasks and sessions should watch the planned filesystem features in DBX Agent Cloud. The deal is not expected to close until the fourth quarter of 2026, so integration details remain open.
