OpenAI matches Anthropic's API credit perk for higher-tier subscribers

OpenAI has launched API credits for eligible ChatGPT subscribers on its $100, $200 and $500 plans, closely mirroring a benefit Anthropic announced earlier this month for its Max and Team subscriptions. Each eligible subscriber receives credits equal to their monthly plan price, which can be applied to one of their API organizations.

Anthropic earlier this month introduced a benefit for Max and Team subscribers paying $100, $200 or $500 per month. Those subscribers receive the same amount in credits for use with the Anthropic API, and the credits expire.

OpenAI has now launched nearly the same arrangement. Holders of ChatGPT plans at those three price points get an equal amount of credits that can be applied to one of their API organizations.

Simon Willison, who holds subscriptions with both companies, says the change may lead him to ship some public-facing demos, since his existing plans now cover the credits.

Why it matters if you build agents

Developers on eligible $100, $200 or $500 plans from either company can now draw API usage against credits their subscription already pays for. Check the expiry terms before building on Anthropic's credits, since the source says those expire and does not give OpenAI's terms.
